It’s certainly been kicking off since the last time on the GPFocus podcast, with big news concerning this season and well into the future. Therefore, this week will prove a bumper packed show for panel Graham Keilloh, Louis Suddaby and Jonny Rockliff to get through.

The Panel discuss all the fallout from yet another week dominated from tyres, with it still unclear just what will change and who will really benefit.

We also give our reaction to the welcomed return of Honda, the Japanese manufacturer hooking up with McLaren to return to the sport for the first time since 2008.

Not forgetting this weekend’s Grand Prix of course: with arguably the most famous of them all providing the venue for round six of the championship.

Subsequently we take a trip down memory lane and ask what makes Monaco so special as well as try to root out all the permutations ahead of this year’s event.

All of this and more on GPFocus.

Music thanks to Callum Barton.

The Greatest Brit? http://gpfocus.com/f1-news/the-focus/the-greatest-brit/ http://gpfocus.com/f1-news/the-focus/the-greatest-brit/#comments Tue, 21 May 2013 21:45:36 +0000 Ewan Marshall http://gpfocus.com/?p=2611 The fact that the streets of Monaco are about to reverberate with the sound of Formula One means only one thing: the European season is now in full swing and the countdown to the British Grand Prix Grand Prix has only got quicker.

Therefore GPFocus are delighted to take part in MoneySupermarket.com’s latest campaign to decide the greatest British Driver to grace the F1 world – seeking out the opinions of a whole host of bloggers and enthusiasts.

Of course the results of the study – alongside our own submission and justifications – will be released in due course, but beforehand we thought we’d gauge our reader’s opinion.

So do you hold Sir Jackie Stewart as ‘Britain’s Best’ or fellow Scot the remarkable Jim Clark? What about ‘Mr Monaco’ Graham Hill, the extraordinary Stirling Moss or John Surtees – conqueror of two and four wheels?

Does the never-say-die spirit of Nigel Mansell or the ‘Playboy’ lifestyle of James Hunt win your vote? And what about some of the Sport’s unsung heroes, such as Brooks, Collins and Hawthorn; the current crop of Button and Hamilton or even the wildcards such as Brundle and McNish?

Plenty of room to debate then; we’d love to hear your views and your top 3 or 5.

Below are some facts and figures to help you make up your mind.

This week’s podcast reviews all the action from last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix – a race which catapulted local hero Fernando Alonso right back into the championship fight.

However the Ferrari ace’s superb victory was somewhat overshadowed by another difficult weekend for Pirelli, with its tyre compounds once again coming in for criticism from various quarters.

But was this a case of jumping the gun or did the events of last Sunday prove the likes of Red Bull right? Has Formula One become less about racing and more about tyre management? Our panel give their views and contemplate the next step?

Alongside this we’ll also reflect on all of the other talking points to come out of the Circuit de Catalunya, with Mercedes starring in qualifying only to collapse on race day; McLaren’s upgrades barely scratching the surface and yet more points for Paul di Resta.

All of this and more in the company of Graham Keilloh, Louis Suddaby, Jonny Rockliff and Paul Hadsley.

After four exciting races from Asia to the deserts of the Bahrain, it’s time to get down to business with the Circuit de Catalunya playing host to the first leg of the European tour.

But as the field heads to Spain, it seems no one is sure just who holds the advantage. Yes, Sebastian Vettel may hold a ten point lead in the standings over Lotus’s Kimi Raikkonen, but given the volatile formbook, there’s nothing to say that the Red Bull driver will power off to a third victory of the year – with a host of drivers lining up to claim the top step of the podium.

So will Barcelona prove its worth and finally give us a definitive picture of the form book or shall we have yet another topsy turvy event?

Our panel preview the weekend ahead, determining who needs a big weekend and who might struggle or even surprise.

Of course much will likely come down to the tyres, and with Pirelli deciding against major changes the displeasure of some will surely rumble on. We’ll ask if the Italian Manufacturer has made the right decision.

All of this and much much more in the company of Graham Keilloh, Louis Suddaby and Jonny Rockliff.

Ever imagined rubbing shoulders alongside Jenson Button and Sergio Perez in the pit lane? Well motor racing fans can now take their dream a step closer thanks to another exclusive initiative from Mobil 1
TM.

Thanks to its long-standing partnership with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, the world’s leading synthetic motor oil brand has launched its ‘Get Personal’ competition – giving entrants the chance to win a stack of outstanding prizes.

One lucky fan will win the experience of a lifetime: the opportunity to get up and personal with Mobil 1 and McLaren as they race their MP4-28 at this year’s United States Grand Prix.

As well as experiencing all the sights and sounds of the stunning Circuit of the Americas, the grand prize winner will also have the opportunity to tour the pit lane and sit side-by-side with Mobil 1 technicians as they analyse the oil and fuel used on track to assist in the pursuit of victory.

And a selection of British runners-up will not go out empty handed, with a selection of exclusive merchandise up for grabs, including actual componentry from inside the race car.

To be in with a chance of winning, head over to www.mobil1.com/getpersonal; create a personalised video and be thrust into the heart of the race team – transforming you into the role of test driver.

Further information can be found at the link above as well as unique, motorsport-themed insights from the team behind Mobil 1.

To get you in the mood, watch the video below, where the McLaren team set up shop in a typical family home:

Good luck to all entrants!

As well as looking at the factors behind the German’s victory we’ll also ponder the situation at Lotus, recall how Ferrari ran out of luck on race day and give our views on the Sergio Perez ruffling Jenson Button’s feathers at McLaren.

In this week’s edition we review all the action from last weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, a race which saw Fernando Alonso and Ferrari bounce back from their Sepang disaster to win for the first time since Hockenheim last year.

Despite displaying all the, luck and precision which characterised his 2012 campaign, the Spaniard appeared to have a car underneath him more than capable of fighting at the front so has victory finally saw the Prancing Horse finally shackle off the underdog tag and move into the realm of the favourites? Our panel give their views.

Once again tyres were at the centre of the debate, with the voices of dissent appearing to grow louder in Shanghai. The decision to pair the soft with the medium compound certainly had its effect, but was what transpired a good thing for Formula One, or does there need to be a change in direction?

It certainly shook things up, as the race produced a number of talking points to digest, including Lotus and Raikkonen back on the front foot, Hamilton and Mercedes continuing to show promise, a bumpy weekend for reigning champions Red Bull and green shoots of recovery for McLaren.

Add to this a preview of this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix and there’s plenty for TalkingaboutF1′s Graham Keilloh, The Chequered Flag’s Louis Suddaby, Alan Feekery and Alex Scott to discuss.

All of this and more on GPFocus.
