2012 Bahrain Grand Prix start 2
For the festive season we’ve created a special series of GPFocus podcasts looking back at 2012 – one of the most memorable seasons in the sport’s illustrious history.

With multiple winners, fickle tyres, controversies and bags of surprises it is little wonder that formula one fans were captivated throughout the 20 race calendar, as the title battle culminated in that rollercoaster final round in Brazil.

Over the next three episodes  a panel of familiar faces; Grand Prix fans and blogger’s give their views – their contributions adding yet more meat on to the bone as the year developed.

In part one we focus on the front of the field, and a championship battle which at one stage was anyone’s game only too eventually come down to a straight fight between arguably the sport’s current pace setters.

But alas there could be only one winner, and despite everything thrown at him it was Sebastian Vettel who came out on top as a three time world champion.

Take nothing away from Alonso though, whose brilliance came to the fore in a car far from worthy of his remarkable talent.

Meanwhile it was a season of many triumphs but one of deep frustration and major upheaval for Lewis Hamilton and his McLaren team.

Team-mate Jenson Button and Aussie Mark Webber also played their part, whilst the Iceman froze the doubt as he and Romain Grosjean shook up the pack.

So with drama up and down the grid having a huge impact on next season, there’s plenty for Jonny Rockliff, Graham Keilloh, Alan Feekery and Gary Marshall.

Music thanks to Callum Barton.
